Samajwadi Party to approach Election commission
Samajwadi party will be moving to Election commission today and stake claim to fight on party symbol in UP Assembly elections as CM Akhilesh Yadav as its Party national president. Earlier Akhilesh was declared as the party chief by his supporters at ‘national convention’. The move was termed ‘unconstitutional’ by Mulayam Singh Yadav. While BJP UP President Keshav Prasad Maurya said that the ‘drama’ of the internal tussle in Samajwadi Party is created to hide failures of the government. He said that,”It is a high voltage drama by the Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh’s administration has been a failure as he has not done anything for the development of the state.”
Poll Panel may freeze the party symbol of Samajwadi Party after the clash erupted over claim of the symbol. Reportedly, the panel will freeze the symbol if Akhilesh puts claim over it. Mulayam Singh Yadav has cancelled the Samajwadi Party convention he had called for January 5,2017, Shivpal Yadav told reporters. Mulayam camp is yet to make its next move after his son and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav who was declared as Party chief by dethroning Mulayam without his consent.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has appointed Naresh Uttam as the party’s state president kicking out his uncle Shivpal Yadav from the post. Interestingly, Naresh is Mulayam Singh Yadav’s old loyalist. After his appointment, Naresh and his troops reached party office and removed the name-plate of Shivpal Yadav from the room before locking it up. The young turk Akhilesh took control of the Samajwadi Party as those close to Mulayam chose to side with the son. Insiders say that Akhilesh’s appointment as party chief has his dad’s tacit support.
Mulayam is not in a mood to part with party’s cycle symbol. Mulayam has reached Delhi to meet the Election Commission commissioner regarding the party symbol. “Samajwadi Party’s election symbol is my Signature,” he told to reporters. Mulayam is mulling over taking legal opinion on symbol fight.
